UGANDA FIRST…

Uganda OR “the pearl of Africa” as labelled by its earlier lovers is locked inside of land between Kenya and DR. Congo with South Sudan to the north and Tanzania bordering to the larger south. Uganda to me is the happiest place I have ever experienced.Ugandans carry a unique sense of merry making or a found knowledge thereof. There always seems to be a friendliness amongst Ugandan citizens that is unmatched for anyone carrying a little bit of cross-country exposure. For some this has been awarded to the dominance of the current head of state Mr. Y. K. Museveni and his supposed “dictatorial” regime that has ruled the nation for the last 3 decades. Politics is always a topic of diversion, confusion, sometimes disarray; and at other times unity. Uganda’s political journey which began in the 1960’s has turned out hilarious over the years with the current president seemingly pursuing a democratic policy which has been executed through a 30plus year reign or “dictatorship.” Rather It’s the beauty and tolerance of the Ugandan people, the patience especially exhibited in the way they have handled the current presidential situation which for anyone else who could be visiting the country or just carrying about some know how on political affairs today would consider extreme.People in some regions of the world have labelled the Ugandan president a “dictator” and at a time when many nations especially in the Middle East and North Africa region have handled similar situations in a different maybe more volatile manner whilst achieving quiet gratifying results. Egypt, Libya, Algeria and more recently the South Sudanese all ousted apparent “dictatorships” or political situations that had become complicated; how beautiful are the Ugandan people! This is the perspective am trying to create.I for one always thought being a Ugandan was nothing out of the ordinary; never thought I would formulate a view of such kind up until the time I had the opportunity to travel briefly, experience different cultures and interact with different backgrounds. I more specifically remember just about 2 years ago whilst on some personal engagements in another African nation encountering some colleagues from South Sudan who just loved to talk politics and could not help but refer to our political situation with a bit of mockery with definite reference to the elongated presidential situation. They were very critically sharp, smart and i remember considering myself inept or unserious for a Ugandan citizen. They are a new nation with so much to look to and rightly so it would always be difficult to counteract these arguments having the knowledge that we democratically elected the same leader on just about 6 occasions. This is to mean that the situation in Uganda if at all there is a situation was created by choice and yes there would be a bit of embarrassment, a bit of discussion on the opposition and their chances of ousting the president at the next opportunity but always an eventual acceptance of the situation pointing that to the account of the character of the mysterious Ugandan people.

I think Mr. Kaguta is anexcellent politician. Purely blameless. He took over office, decided he was not ready to leave and has done what he needs to do to keep his job; 1986 to this date. I think the opposing politicians are even better in doing what needs to be done. Mainly represented by a former ally and friend of the president, they have put up a performance and endeavoured to give the Ugandan citizen always an option to make the choice to the change that they genuinely think they need. Yes the situation has raised some prominent eyebrows worldwide, also; could have turned out differently for the opposing party considering the country has a history of war and unrest; neighbouring nations of Kenya and Rwanda have both experienced pretty uglysituations or massacres before which had political bearings and obviously the new neighbours of South Sudan have also very recently been at war.

 So what is it about these Ugandan people??? Cleary a situation that is very far from ideal, more than most setup as a “dictatorship” rule, yet managed so kindly and superficially that even without necessarily acquiring any political attachments, one would consider the president a lucky man. Lucky in keeping his job even lucky to be alive.atany ordinary moment, the ordinary African would choose to shed blood, or pick up weapons, crowd the streets in protest of supposed encroached human and democratic rights. Alarmingly for me the situation has turned out different, very different.

So who really are these exuberant Ugandans? Why do they portray political character and identity with such variance from their immediate neighbours?? Why would they choose to preserve the job and legacy of a leader in a situation that’s extremely questionable?

Yes well known in Africa for bordering within the source of the great River Nile, and yes the nature is good, the climate as ever beautiful but article analysis is on the persona that is the Ugandan. We could be looking at some very special human beings today, unlike any other!!!! Considering a future that may bring an integration some of the East African nations to form a community more common, todays Uganda must be recognised for what it really is; the temperament and beauty that’s been passed onto its citizens.
