COVID-19

Covid-19 as is the label attached to the latest global virus pandemic – the corona virus – a sickening illness out of nowhere that’s become rampant with numbers in death is a lingering matter on the minds of so many in the recent weeks and months. In preference we would love to have to mumble and scribble on subjects that are more “sparkly” , “celebrant” or fullfilling especially considering a fact that this is a huge year marking off the start of a new decade – 2020; its absolutely disastrous and down there with the worst case scenario to have to deal with a controversy such as what has become of the new pandemic. A new disease, a new world problem across the globe.

The corona virus has presumptuously and skillfully taking a round trip across the globe with a 4.3% kill rate with about 20,000 deaths at the moment and counting. With atleast 300,000 infections and originating in the Chinese cities of Wuhan Beijing and Hongkong, its absolutely frightening. Anybody and everybody is pondering who this monster is and exactly how long this is to last in what is drastically dragging on to become a dramatic and insane period in time. Increasingly difficult to get a grip on matters. The indiscriminate nature of the disease is appalling, its diagnostic symptoms may very well categorise the disease parallel to similar labels like the SARS which eclimatised in 2002-03 or the similarly threatening anthrax.

The corona virus indiscriminate and rapid infection rate has impacted societies and communities of all types and sizes and the scare has called for and indeed gotten the dear attention of the most powerful sects in global leadership. The obvious would include the President Of The United States Donald Trump has had to address various stereotypes on the outbreak of the new disease making endless statements on the need for Americans to take caution, the United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson also repeatedly expressing concern and commanding strict measures including a complete lockdown in attempt to halt the rapid spread in Europe. This call by several leaders for a shutting down on their major institutes and having citizens taking cover in quarantine even though temporary has definitely posed a threat economically as depends on howlong the pandemic revolves around the world.

 The biggest hits and most direct impact of this outbreak has been at the sporting and and entertainment fraternities for the obvious reason that its in the crowding and gatherings that the business is done; thats to mean any sporting entertainment event would instead encapsulate a concetration point for the corona virus. Its an absolute horror – the forced temporary closures in the NBA, the FIFA leagues that hat have been halted across the globe, the IOC having to come to terms with the possible indefinite postponment of the Tokyo 2020 oympics and the halting of the six- nations tournament; all massive multi-billion dollar events that in any case are usually considered irrevocable. This is the mark of a global crisis; anything that would hurt the sporting fraternities in such fashion is without doubt urgent for the billions of dollars worth in incomes and livelihoods sustainabilies – situation is absurd.

Interestingly Africa has been the latest and slowest recipient of the corona virus but not exempted nevertheless. The governments constructing quarantine measures and travel bans as a means to an end in curbing the break-neck speedy spread of the disease is only as an expected reactive. Someone must do something about something, this is the play. The Africans though may have grown robust as regards global disasters of such nature. The continent has been busy after a gruelling endurance in a fight with the HIV-AIDS virus that exploded in the 1980s killing over 10million todate and then came the 20th century Ebola virus which brokeout in parts of Central and East Africa with a kill rate of of 60% after killing thousands in Western Africa. Two very forgettable instances in Africa that would get the African to fore think on the fact that “maybe we have seen worse”. Not in the least to take way the cause for concern and sheer caution on the covid-19 effect, but yess to consider that the corona virus has maybe got a different style in its airborne nature, is absolutely expensive in the way it has affected some of the highest earning individuals in the world, the uncertainity that’s been caused in the aviation industry this is all entirely new but nevertheless congruent. Different tactic, stylish in arrival but for the African you are looking at the same enemy, probably same motive and may require a similar mindset or attitude in combat efforts but with absolutely no need to engage the panic gear.

The situation currently in impetuous; gathered knowledge and updates from journalists and news anchors, reports coming in from presidential offices across the globe and obviously the WHO which are not in anyway yet to provide any sure re-assurance in a confidence toward a possible dip in the rapid death toll or any possible discovery of an anti-dote to potentially curb the dubious spread of the disease has created a worrying – global emergency.
